College and University Preparation (Upgrading) Lethbridge College
Are you seeking a career change? Are you considering College or University? Upgrade on a full or part-time basis with assistance at your local campus to help navigate you through your courses so you can finish your high school equivalent courses in your home community.

Average Cost: $500.00 per course (including textbooks)

Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma Lethbridge College

The following is one course (offered by videoconference in your home community) required to complete the Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma. Other courses are available by Distance Learning. For more information go to www.lethbridgecollege.ca.

 

ECE-151-V02 Health, Nutrition & Safety (3 credits)
Focuses on health and well-being, nutrition and safety issues pertaining to Early Childhood.

Dates: Tuesdays, Jan. 10 – April 17, 2012 (videoconference in your local community)

Times: 6:15 – 9:15 pm

Application fee + Tuition: $331.17 Textbook: $136.85

 

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

The EMR program provides the necessary skills and knowledge for an entry-level emergency care provider and is a prerequisite for being selected into the EMT Program and in turn to the EMT-Paramedic.


Complete in your home community with weekend workshops in Claresholm or Crowsnest Pass depending on the program you are enrolled in.

Claresholm Program – March 1 – June 30, 2012

Crowsnest Pass Program– January 14 – April 1, 2012

GED Preparation (General Equivalency Diploma) Lethbridge College

Don’t have your high school diploma? - Prepare to write the GED test
The GED is accepted by many employers as an alternative to a high school diploma.

Dates: Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 17 – Feb. 24, 2012

Times: 7:00 – 9:30 pm (videoconference in your home community)

Fees: $428.36 (includes textbook and exam writing fee)

 

Practical Nurse – Full-time Program Lethbridge College

The Practical Nursing diploma will train students to the practical nurse’s full scope of practice as identified by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.

This program will be offered through a variety of formats, including video conferencing (learner support), online courses, labs, and community-based clinical experiences. Students will need to travel to Lethbridge for some of the lab experiences.

Academic Requirements
Applicants are required to have an Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent including: 60 per cent minimum in English Language Arts (ELA) 30-1 or 70 per cent in ELA 30-2; 60 per cent in Pure Math 20 or 70 per cent in Applied Math 20, 60 per cent minimum in Biology 30, or equivalents.

A current CPR Health Care Provider-level Certificate is required prior to clinical.

Special Needs Education Assistant Lethbridge College

The following is one course (offered by videoconference in your home community) required to complete the Special Needs Education Diploma. Other courses are available by Distance Learning depending on whether you want to complete on a full or part-time basis. Go to www.lethbridgecollege.ca for more information.


HSP 151 V01 Family Systems and Development (3 credits)
An introduction to the family as a dynamic system. The stages of family development are presented and discussed. An examination of family dynamics and issues within families are covered. Not available for supplemental. Equivalent to CYC-151.

Application Processing Fees: $60.00 (new student)

The Unit Clerk Program, scheduled to start January, 2012 is now full. We would like to have your input as to whether you would like to take this program at a later date. Please call 403-562-2853 to express an interest.


CONSTRUCTION SAFETY TRAINING SYSTEM (CSTS)
S82-007-R01

Alberta Construction Safety Association’s Computer Based Training program is designed for the individual worker and offered in a user-friendly format that allows individuals self-paced learning tailored specifically to the construction industry. You’ll be instructed on various health and safety topics and then tested for full mastery of content. The aim of the CSTS is to educate workers in safety, and encourage them to apply this important information to every aspect of their workplace performance. Contact your local campus for more information and to make an appointment.


Dates: Continuous intakes until June 30, 2012

Fees: $89.25

Funding will be available for the Fall, 2012 for those persons who qualify. You must apply for funding prior to July for September, 2012 start date.

DISTRIBUTED/ONLINE LEARNING
Some call it distance learning, others distributed learning, and still others blended learning; we call it a flexible, accessible and personalized way for our students to access our programs and courses.

Through our flexible course offerings, you can:
* Earn College credits without coming on campus;
* Choose courses and timelines that suit your goals;
* Complete a College program while working;
* Take courses which complement on-campus courses.

Application Process:
Distributed/online Learning students apply to a College program following the admission procedures outlined in the College calendar. You should apply early. Another option is to apply as an undeclared student which allows you to take up to four courses (maximum two per term).

eLearning Café
Lethbridge College’s eLearning Café puts all the resources of its popular on-campus Learning Café at students’ fingertips 24/7.

Features of the eLearning Café include:

- online learning: communication and problem-solving skills, personal motivation, computer skills, tips for succeeding as an online learner, using the internet, managing course work and completing online tests
- study skills: learning style assessment, online learning strategies, dealing with tests and self-management
- writing and research: general paper structure, the writing process, research and APA, grammar and writing mechanics.

Online Tutoring
Students taking a Lethbridge College course can access the free online tutoring service available, which focuses primarily on writing and study-skills support. Instant chat, real-time appointments through virtual conferencing and a writing drop box are available.

In addition to the above programming, the following services are available to learners:
- exam invigilation
- distance learning support services
- access to and assistance with funding applications
- access to computers
- referrals to various departments for counseling, advising and service management
- information regarding Lethbridge College programs as well as other post secondary institutions and providers
